Just One Line

from What It Is, Too by Andrew Newton

/

about

The things we want aren't always what we should have. As strong as a desire may be, sometimes the best decision is to walk away.

Side note: when I would play this live, I'd always try to slip in "Beautiful Life" by Ace of Base. Try to guess where in the song, then get yourself a snack!

lyrics

Just a flickering reflection and a shard of broken glass.
Just another small reminder of all the things that were never built to last.
Just a few words spoken softly as we read between the lines.
I can't climb these walls around me, but you can break these barriers of mine.
But all I ever wanted is what I cannot hold.
It's sad but true.
It must be you.

I'll say "Good-bye!", it's just one line.
A million eyes with just one mind.

I can wit until the morning, I can wait until the night.
All I ever do is wait here and think about how to tell from wrong and right.
Like a prison guard beside me, I will never need the rest.
Still, I know that this won't happen.
So I'll just give you some and take the rest.
But all I want to buy here is what has just been sold.
It's sad but true.
And this is you.

I am just a finger pointing at the moon.
I am not the moon.
So I'll just say "Good-bye!"
