The Start

On the phone, I’m all alone Must have wandered far from home Please excuse, you were my muse But all these years, my love abused. And now in one quick glance The promise of a second chance A vision from the past You never finish last A moment sweet This endless street A chance at love to repeat But that was then, and this is now Then’s too good to be true That was then, and this is now Now’s not what I thought I knew Frozen feelings find The truth be told and unwind The air is fresh and free And melts all misery And if this is so Then you must let go Keep your troubles buried in the snow. On this floor I’ll say no more Please let heal this open sore Please excuse, you were my muse But all these years, my love refused. The love that I thought was you Both then and now are through

Another glass of wine, another night the clock is staring at me And all that I can see Memories in time, faces of the ones in and out of my door I can take no more Thinking of a time, buried in the past with an impulse strong Feel like I belong But time can add the weight loaded on these shoulders, breaking my back Looking in the black And through the night, dark and cold And frost on the windowpane Calls me out, calls me from The everyday mundane Can I take the chance this time? Can I believe? Though it may lead to nothing at all Will I deceive myself? So I hurry on my coat, stumble in my boots, and out of the door A longing to explore Curious, it seems, in all my wildest dreams I usually wait Patient at the gate To see his face, that’s my place But this time I’ll take charge On my feet, whom will I’ll meet? A kindred soul at large? I might take a chance this time I might believe Though it may lead to nothing at all I can’t deceive myself Is what I’m doing right? I could stay home all night. But that’s no way to live And I cannot forgive So I’ll head down this icy road I will take a chance this time I will believe Though it may lead to nothing at all I won’t deceive Myself.

Candle Light 05:13
The crisp fall air, and fire wood burning I walk through frost and crack the icy grass The snowy path that leads down is turning The harbour, shining like a looking glass The moment is in awe from all Eden And yet my mind is somewhere else complete For though this is a universal beacon This moment must be discrete. They say that one should live for tomorrow And one should never cling to regret Well that’s a book I wish I could borrow While there’s a lot of things I’d rather forget But though the wind is cutting me slowly And shelter is too far away Conclusions reached are unholy And the rules are complete disarray. An angel too close to the sun The damage cannot be undone But still there’s a candle light And somehow I’ll get through the night And now the air seems to get colder The ice forming around my frozen feet I’ll leave this spot feeling older And wander through dark city streets…

Well, Kiss my grits! I’m on the town And I hear that there’s a place around Where girls get drunk and wallow in self-pity Well, I got my coat. I got my hat. I got assorted this and that It’s time to make my mark here in the city! But if you get up in my face Because I’m ruler of this place I’ve got a few words of choice, and you’ll be sorry I learned them as a little lad And, oh boy howdy, I’m sure glad You get to hear the power and the glory! “Here’s my finger! Here’s my thumb! Here’s my fist, you better run! Or I’ll take you outside and you’ll get a lickin’! Here’s my finger! Here’s my thumb! Here’s my fist, you better run! And now the world will know who is chicken!” Well, I’m here to love! I’m here to fight! And I could do this every night If only I had time or the money But none could ever take away The twelve words that I long to say And I don’t think it ain’t at all that funny! “Here’s my finger! Here’s my thumb! Here’s my fist, you better run! The situation here is quite invitin’. Here’s my finger! Here’s my thumb! Here’s my fist, you better run! The words that come and set you up for fightin’!” I see the girl I’m honing in Now let the night begin! Hey, that’s not right Let’s start a fight I longed for this all night!

…and the beat keeps me moving Even from so far away My two left feet improving And won’t lead me astray The man inside waves “Enter!” To a door alone in light I am lead towards the center Of the rhythm of the night The air is getting thicker and I find it hard to breathe But still my feet are quicker as they keep me up to speed I can see you from a distance Your hair in an endless wave I can tell in an instance That my heart need not be brave I try to say the first word, but you beat me to the chase It might be absurd, but it put me in my place This is hard to face… I got your name And I got your number I got your name I got your name. I’m not sure what I’m doing I’m not right for this scene I’d be better off reviewing From a distance, neat and clean I somehow got the courage. I somehow got the nerve. But now I’m all discouraged, I’ll sit back and observe And get what I deserve. You don’t know what I know So I’ll be first to let go You’ll avoid my heart destroyed I’ll keep you safe from the void. I should have known better, but I followed to the letter And now I’m all misguided, my path is all divided I finally recover, but it seems you found another…

Only Me 04:01
He’s a big city, highball shaker He’s a million dollar moviemaker He’s got a house and a downtown condo He’s a full meal super size combo He finds love wherever he makes it And whatever he wants, he takes it He’s a man with the looks that kill He don’t even need to pay But this is only me For you I’ll never be I walk this endless street No rest for weary feet ‘cause this is only He’s a star with a fatal attraction He’s got the moves of Sinatra and Jackson He splits the eights and he dresses to the nines He sees the message and he reads between the lines You got her, now you take her Don’t mind the lonely man with name in hand Who sticks his head in the sand
7.
Regret 04:30
I may have been cornered, but I ain't with him He slithered out of nowhere on a fragile limb His eyes are cold and lurk in shadow I need to get away You were the first and last this evening But still you wouldn’t stay I hedged all of my bets But still I’m buried in debt Don’t make me regret Or that’s as far as you will get I played all of my cards With hope standing on guard So don’t make me regret Because this heart cannot forget Distracted just one moment, and then you were gone Do I just stay here dancing or do I move on? It’s clear you didn’t see the message Despite the grand design But I might give you one last chance You just need a sign The road is cold and little traveled But footprints in the snow I’ll wait a while in warmth and wonder Where those footprints go And then I’ll finally know… Don’t make me regret Or that’s as far as you will get So don’t make me regret Because this heart cannot forget

With my feet getting sore, I can’t walk anymore So I’ll just sit here and rest for a while But this sketch-looking man, well, he’s got another plan So I’ll lend an ear and fake a smile “Did you hear about the plane, and I know this sounds insane, But it disappeared right out of the light? It was flying across the sea, and according to TV, There’s more than one way to cancel a flight” And I said All right, good night All right, good night “It was a military troop, or a terrorist group Or something worse that we’re not allowed to know Like a government crime, or maybe all this time It was outrageous like a UFO” But I’m running behind, I’ve got someone on my mind And a phone number still in my hand And this stranger has shown that my story’s overblown So I dig my head back out of the sand And I say Now where’s the phone to call her? I got the phone to call her!

Hesitation 01:38
I memorized that number I had it so long. My fingers frozen, and I hesitate Suzy, I’m sorry, but did I have it all wrong? The phone in hand, now do I take the bait? Head high for a sign in the sky…

There’s a story about a lonely man who grew up in Afghanistan And was tired of all the fighting in which others were delighting He had to find a way to bring peace to light of day So he thought of how and why, then he looked up to the sky. The stars, all in their multitude sit peacefully in solitude So if he joined the stars at night, then he could sit there in delight. “I’ll build a spaceship” that man said, “and to the starry night I’ll wed. But first the parts I’ll need to find, for one can’t build a spaceship blind.” He found a man who built a bomb (it didn’t take him very long) And found a pile up to his knees, some pieces used for IEDs For guidance, and to take the load, a tank abandoned on the road He dragged it all to mountain high, and built his ship to join the sky. His ship completed, pointed right, now fit to join the starry night He’s all strapped in and set to go. In English, whispers “Make it so!” The ship takes off and starts to climb, surprisingly, in record time But the Taliban would have their say and launched a missile right his way. He thought that he was in the clear. He reached the upper atmosphere But then the missile hit his side, and soon to Earth he would collide. He never made it very far, but quickly was a shooting star And though his dream would never cease, he finally found a solemn peace.

The Start 03:55
Taking this risk, like taking a dive in the ocean Battling heart and mind for a solid emotion But, like the sea, security’s not what you crave Finding a partner to join in the ocean to ride the wave Once we were tepid and shy, and maybe not much has changed But still we find strength to step out into discord and strange Thought I had lost you in barely the blink of an eye Glad I looked up to see something amiss in the cold dark sky Nervous and terrified, trying to find words that are clear Yet we find comfort in knowing the other is near Starlight and shooting stars, cold frost that covers the land But there’s no need to carry me down this long road if you take my hand Take my hand We’ll crack the icy grass together Understand We’ll still be in for stormy weather It’s not the end We will not pretend But if we are smart Then it might be the start.

about

The age-old story of two people lost, find love, lose it, find it again. Understanding that it's not the end, but if they're smart it might be the start.
