Cardinal Sin 03:05
Some appear One comes near Frightened ways? Calm the rest of your days. Though you fear to leave your cage Small it gets with age. Leave your prison behind Much more light you will find Watch the skies open Let the beauty of truth fall in. And you will See the shame of the past Now let go of it fast. All the rest of you Follow suit for the final win. "But I can't begin. It's a cardinal sin."

Stay With Me 04:03
Please leave the light on Because it's dark as the night And I need to see your face So I know it's alright. A battle cry The alibi The bitter cold Or so we're told. But you can stay with me tonight.

Tightrope 06:07
On a fine drawn line stand I Looking down to the left and right of me And I must be walking high For the souls below I cannot see. But they see one another And I just disappear And which way I should go is not so clear. Should I just fall? Or should I move along? If I choose the balance, would I be wrong? In silence, carry on With these words and this song? So I look down to the right: Crossed arms and closed eyes. On the left, no silent night: Burning tires and dirty fights. In the center, my reflection. But I can't understand The path of resolution in my hands. "Keep your head up high, Straight across the sky. Know you cannot fly" And down I fall...

The river's force The devil's course. How I try, but never win. The howling beast. The lover's feast. We're all drunk on sin. You say good-bye. I wonder why All we've wanted is lost. It's time to fight. You know I'm right. Let us not count the cost.

"Goodnight to all the city lights. Goodnight to all the towers bright still glorified by satellite. And those who occupy the alleyways. And those who claim malaise, but are living glory days" So I look upon the kingdom that had lit the spark. A spark that led to fire in the street. And I think about the life on the other side. And the life that I once thought was incomplete. There's a truth that can't be reckoned by a verifying second, So the other coast that loved the most has looked, and now has beckoned. That door is always open, and it's time that I awoken From dreams that lie here broken, unspoken...

Deny The Sun 04:01
I thought I saw those words. I'll read them again a little more slowly And take better care in what they say. To some they speak the truth. To others, they read a lot like a fiction. And some just wish it go away. Those on the right see only beauty there. A beauty they'll never know. But I'm not one to follow only pretty words And poetry of times gone by Now buried far below. The sun is finally up. A million years of dark and the cold and My eyes are hurting from the light. I can't deny the sun, While others prefer to live in the shadow And are awakened by the night. Though we have left the caves to touch the moon, Our eyes watching further still, I'll never understand the thinking that It's better in the darkest caves. I guess I'll never will.

about

This new album from Andrew Newton combines his usual elements of funk, rock, and folk with a series of old Celtic tunes, some traditional, most written during his time in the Yukon 13 years ago.
We Have Left The Caves explores themes of discovery, free thought, the difficulties of moderation, the right to criticize, and yearning for home.
