Dirty Shore

from What It Is, Too by Andrew Newton

/

about

When people in entertainment leave the Maritimes, the place they all go is Toronto. It just adds to the myth that Toronto is the center of the universe. It's a huge country, with lots of opportunity if you keep your eyes open.

lyrics

The wine bottle is open, better pour another round.
I know you're not a fan of pacing.
And all these sorrows, they must be really hard to drown.
You're never going to win this race you're racing.
Am I the only one that keeps on moving?

He's a big fish in a small pond, known for taking it outside.
Says there's one, and only one, conclusion.
And he claims that he's better now, even though he's only selling mags,
But that's his Maritime solution.
Am I the only one that keeps on moving?

Stay.
You're not that far away.
The tide will know your dirty shore someday.
I'll go,
And you will never show
The need to leave your dirty shore, oh no.

This place breeds the movers, and we know they cannot stay.
But there is only one end they will ever know.
And the folks that keep on moving only seem to go half-way,
Never thinking there's an answer past Lake Ontario.
